The seventh Bregenz Biennale did not take place in Bregenz. It is a departure from its grounding in Bregenz as a site—it exists everywhere except in Bregenz itself. After six editions deeply embedded in the niches and idiosyncrasies of this small town, this Biennale manifests itself through a distributed publication project by artists who have never visited or exhibited their work in the city. This may seem like a paradoxical decision. But it does not mean that it is unrelated to Bregenz as a cosmopolitical place, embedded and entangled in local and global transformations.
